September 11, 2011 at 9:43 pm (Uncategorized)

The American Society for Horticultural Science offers its Certified Horticulturist program for those working in the industry who may or may not have any formal horticultural education. Those who can become CH candidates include people:

  • working full-time in horticulture and have at least three years of paid full-time horticultural work experience, or
  • working full-time in horticulture, have a two-year degree in horticulture, and have at least two years of paid full-time horticultural work experience, or
  • working full-time in horticulture, have a four-year degree in horticulture, and have at least one year of paid full-time work experience.

Already certified through a state or regional entity? Great! The CH program is designed to enhance, not replace, local certifications. Adding the CH designation to your qualifications will boost your professionalism and integrity as well as horticulture as a career for all.

The CH program requires candidates to apply for the designation and also to pass the exam. Exams are given routinely in various locations. Check the ASHS-CH web site for requirements plus test registration and study guide information.
