ASHS Certified Professional Horticulturist Program

September 11, 2011 at 10:19 pm (Uncategorized)

The American Society for Horticultural Science (ASHS) offers its Certified Professional Horticulturist (CPH) Program for those who:

  • have a bachelor’s degree in horticulture (or closely related discipline) plus five years work experience, or
  • have a master’s degree in horticulture (or closely related discipline) plus three years work experience, or
  • have a doctorate in horticulture (or closely related discipline) plus one year work experience.

There are two levels in this program: Associate Professional Horticulturist (APH) and CPH. The APH program is for recent graduates who may not yet have all the work experience necessary to become a full-fledged CPH.

Why be certified? There are numerous reasons! Among them are to:

  • maintain high standards for the horticulture industry
  • encourage professional development
  • increase the visibility of horticulture as a profession
  • exemplify the CPH/APH Code of Ethics
  • help meet requirements for making horticultural recommendations.

There are no testing requirements.

Already certified through a state or regional entity? Great! The CPH program is designed to enhance, not replace, local certifications. Adding the CPH designation to your qualifications will boost your professionalism and integrity as well as horticulture as a career for all.

Join us! Application materials and further information are available on the ASHS web site.
